Understanding Buy Now, Pay Later Services

About This Webinar:

In this webinar, experts from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) provide important information for Personal Financial Managers (PFMs) on Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services. As Buy Now, Pay Later services become more common with online and in-store shopping, it is important for service members and their families to understand the product and how service member consumer protections apply. We discuss what this product actually is, how it works, and the risks and realities involved.

Presenters:

Laura Udis PhotoLaura Udis is the Small Dollar, Marketplace, and Installment Lending Program Manager in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Office of Markets. Laura’s portfolio includes pawn, payday, auto title, buy now/pay later, and personal loans, and also earned wage access products. Laura joined the Bureau in 2013 and previously worked at the Consumer Federation of America and the Colorado Attorney General’s Office as First Assistant Attorney General and Administrator of the Consumer Credit Code. In that role, she was responsible for regulation, supervision, and enforcement of state laws on payday and installment lending, debt collection, and debt management companies. Laura has a J.D. from Boston University School of Law and a B.A. from the University of Colorado.

Yolanda McGill HeadshotYolanda D. McGill is a Managing Counsel in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Office of Regulations since 2015, and is responsible for managing that office’s Military Lending Act issue area, in addition to managing the office’s work on payday and small dollar lending, UDAAP, overdraft, and credit card. Prior to working at the Bureau, Yolanda led a foreclosure rescue fraud prevention project for the national Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and led the payday lending portfolio for the Center for Responsible Lending during the documentation, debate, and passage phases of the Talent-Nelson Amendment. Yolanda is a 1999 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School.
