Dr. Barbara O’Neill and Attorney Mary Benzinger will present this 90-minute webinar on estate planning on behalf of OneOp’s Personal Finance Concentration Area. Topics to be discussed in this webinar include probate and probate avoidance, the advantages and limitations of wills, trusts, estate taxes, blended families, life insurance beneficiaries, states that have transfer on death for vehicles and real property, poor planning & minor children, testamentary trusts, and estate planning resources.

Speakers

Dr. Barbara O’Neill, financial resource management specialist for Rutgers Cooperative Extension, has been a professor, financial educator, and author for 35 years. She has written over 1,500 consumer newspaper articles and over 125 articles for academic journals, conference proceedings, and other professional publications. She is a certified financial planner (CFP®), chartered retirement planning counselor (CRPC®), accredited financial counselor (AFC), certified housing counselor (CHC), and certified financial educator (CFEd). Dr. O’Neill served as president of the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education and is the author of two trade books, Saving on a Shoestring and Investing on a Shoestring, and co-author of Investing For Your Future, Money Talk: A Financial Guide for Women, and Small Steps to Health and Wealth. She earned a Ph.D. in family financial management from Virginia Tech and received over three dozen awards for professional achievements and over $900,000 in funding for financial education programs and research.

Mary M. Benzinger has served as the Senior Attorney for the U.S. Army at the Pentagon Army and Air Force Legal Assistance Office since 2009. She is a graduate of Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. and received her Juris Doctor from the Washington College of Law, The American University, Washington, D.C. She has been a Member of the Virginia State Bar since 1987. Before coming to the Army, she was in private practice in Northern Virginia for 19 years with her primary practice being Family Law. Ms. Benzinger is the former President of the Arlington County (Virginia) Bar Association, former Chair of the Virginia State Bar Lawyer Referral Service, currently Vice Chair of the Virginia State Bar Conference of Local Bar Associations and member of the Board of Governors of the Virginia State Bar Military Law Section. Ms. Benzinger is a frequent lecturer on many legal issues of concern to Service members including Family Law, Family Support and Custody, Estate Planning, Service Members Civil Relief Act, Landlord/Tenant and the Uniform Services Former Spouse Protection Act and a guest lecturer at The US Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School.
