About This Webinar:
About 40% of American adults have obesity, and if the current trend continues, is expected to increase to more than half of the adult population by 2030. Specifically, 7.7% had severe obesity, a body mass index of 40 kg/m2 or greater, in 2015-2016. Bariatric surgery is the most effective and durable treatment for severe obesity, and is often preceded by preoperative nutrition assessment and management.
This webinar provides the current state of the field, shares literature that supports it, and explores how dietitians can support patients with severe obesity seeking surgical treatment.
Objectives
After this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the nutrition-related indications and contraindications to bariatric surgery
- Understand the current literature on required preoperative nutrition intervention and its relationship to postoperative outcomes
