The 2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans – New Revisions and Uses
Wed January 27, 2021: 11:00 am-12:00 pm ESTFree
About This Webinar:
Every 5 years, the government publishes the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (Guidelines). The Guidelines serve as a central source of guidance that nutrition programs within the government can use to inform their food and nutrition programs and initiatives while tailoring their efforts for their specific audiences, like women and children and school lunches.
The Guidelines provide food-based recommendations to promote health, help prevent diet-related disease, and meet nutrient needs. Additionally, outside organizations and companies use the Guidelines in the private sector. For the first time, the 2020-2025 DGA includes specific recommendations for pregnant and lactating women and children less than 2 years of age.
This webinar discusses the process used to develop the 2020 Guidelines, examines how recommendations have changed since the 2015 edition of the Guidelines, and explores what the changes might mean for your family and your clients.
At the conclusion of this webinar:
- Participants will be able to describe the process for developing the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
- Participants will be able to contrast the 2020 and 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and describe the basis for the updates.
- Participants will be able to summarize the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommendations for pregnant and lactating women and children under 2 years of age.
