About this Webinar

Caregivers can play a vital role in assisting families living with disabilities as they plan and prepare for disasters. In this webinar, participants gain the knowledge and understanding, especially regarding disability, to encourage families to take action now, before disaster strikes. Through an interactive webinar, military service providers, Extension educators, and caregivers learn essential steps to help build family resilience.

 

Learning Objectives

  • Identify essential and disability-related items that belong in a family disaster kit
  • Explain the importance of a written family disaster plan
  • Describe at least three vital documents that may help in disaster recovery
  • Discuss ways to build family resilience

Presenter

Image of Crystal LyonsCrystal Lyons is a disability consultant specializing in accessibility and ADA-related issues.  Dedicated to disability integration, she develops and provides training and coaching for a variety of entities including local governments, transit agencies, centers for independent living, and emergency management organizations. Her company specializes in disability integration analysis, inclusive emergency preparedness, accessible communications, and ADA Title II compliance, both Department of Justice and Department of Transportation regulations. She also serves on the Texas Division of Emergency Management’s Texas Emergency Management Advisory Committee (TEMAC), Executive Committee and is Vice President of the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities (CTD).

Continuing Education

  • Social Work, LPC, LMFT: Programming approval for 1.5 CE credits will be obtained for Social Work, Licensed Professional Counselors, and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists from the University of Texas at Austin, Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Check with your state licensing agency for reciprocity and/or credit approval if licensed for other professions or in one of the following states: CO, FL, HI, IA, KS, KY, MI, NY, ND, OH, OK (Expires: 3/11/2023)
  • Case Manager: This program has been submitted to the Commission for Case Manager Certification for approval to provide board-certified case managers with 1.5 clock hours. (Expires: 3/11/2022)
  • Board Certified Patient Advocates: This program has been pre-approved by The Patient Advocate Certification Board to provide continuing education credit to Board Certified Patient Advocates (BCPA). The webinar has been approved for a total of 1.5 CE contact hour, of which 0.0 are in the area of Ethics. (Expires: 3/11/2023)
  • Certified Family Life Educators (CFLE):  This program has been approved by the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) for 1.5 CE credit for CFLE. (Expires: 3/11/2023)
  • Certificates of Attendance are available for providers interested in documenting their training activities.
