Megan Schumaker-Murphy, Ed.D.

Megan Schumaker-Murphy, Ed.D. is an assistant professor at Salem State University with experience as an early childhood special education teacher, early intervention provider, and teacher coach. Dr. Schumaker-Murphy’s research is focused on how early childhood educators can engage in equitable practices. Her dissertation, “Fathers’ Experiences in Early Intervention: Maroon in the Kitchen or Member of the Team,” was published in 2019 and served to inform the Virginia Early Intervention Professional Development’s practitioner workshops. Results from her study were also included in the State of Virginia’s 2020 annual early intervention report for the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). Dr. Schumaker-Murphy continues in ongoing work to address racial equity in teacher preparation programs. In 2021 she was a member of a presenting team at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) conference titled, “’Capital’izing on the Cultural Wealth and Sense of Belonging: Narratives of Successful Students of Color in a Teacher Preparation Program.”
