Moving Toward Inclusive Practice – Listening

November 19, 2019 @ 3:30 am CST

Anne Phibbs podcast

About this Episode

In this episode we hear about listening as “attending”, and the difference from “sympathy”. Through stories and conversation, Dr. Phibbs shares that in an oppressive system we need to create the space and let people know that you are trustworthy.  Everyone has a deep complex story and no one can take away your story, and in slowing down, and being present, we build authenticity.

As you listen to this episode, “Listening” think about the following questions:

What does it mean to “attend” and listen, and listen deeply?

Can we listen deeply enough so we can pick up even beyond what is being said?  Are there ways that we can practice that?

How do you listen for values? (an exercise will be shared)

What’s the stuff I never wanted to look at?
