Traumatic brain injury is a very significant issue when it comes to the physical and mental health of the military service members that it affects. It can be debilitating and crosses over into all aspects of the service member’s life; both personally and professionally. Military spouses and families are also impacted and need as much support as the service members themselves.
TBICoE Website and Podcast Series
That’s where The Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE) comes in. TBICoE is the leading organization with the Military Health System to support military service members and their families with the consequences of mild to severe TBI. On their website page, TBICoE shares many great resources for patients and providers, as well as current and ongoing research in the field of TBI. They also have a full FAQ section and TBICoE produces multiple podcast series on various TBI-related topics.
“Picking Your Brain” is a podcast series that focuses on the care and recovery of service members and veterans who have sustained a TBI. Also, in 2016, TBICoE started “The TBI Family,” a podcast focused on TBI caregivers and their loved ones. And finally, Launched in May 2017, the “Clinical Updates in Brain Injury Science Today”—or CUBIST—series is for healthcare providers treating service members and veterans with traumatic brain injury. Each episode offers a brief analysis of current research relevant to clinicians.
TBICoE and OneOp Collaborations
In partnering with TBICoE, OneOp is hosting several webinars and pieces of programming in the coming months to highlight current research, education, and strategies that service professionals can utilize in their work with clients affected by mild to severe TBI.
The first is a OneOp Anchored podcast episode entitled “An Introduction to the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence’s Caregiver and Provider Resources| Anchored Episode 24.” This podcast episode will be available soon on our OneOp Anchored Podcast Series page. Our guests, Kristen Benson and Courtney Sadler are Regional Education Coordinators for the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE) of the Defense Health Agency. They join us to share the new Caregiver and Provider Resources from TBICoE.
Next on November 30th, 2021, our OneOp will host a live webinar entitled “Interactive Self-Care Workshop for Military & Veteran TBI Caregivers.” Kristen Benson and Courtney Sadler will once again join us along with their colleague, Gabriela Ryan who is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist. They will share an overview of what TBI looks like for military service members and their families.
Finally, be on the lookout for more collaborative programming with TBICoE on into 2022! We plan to host a 2-part webinar series in March and details for those will be available soon on our Webinars and Events page.
