Detour Ahead: Person-Centered Contingency Planning

November 28, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EST

Highlighter circling calendar date that says, "It starts with you!"

About this Webinar:

Planning for contingencies can reduce worries by ensuring that steps are in place in case of a sudden or unexpected change. All those involved will have the satisfaction of knowing that a system is in place that outlines what needs to be done and when. For instance, in the case of a caregiver, a contingency plan helps to prepare for sudden or unexpected health issues, income/job changes etc. For a service provider this would mean preparing for clients needs such as the birth of a child with a disability, changes in health care laws, specialized resource requirements etc. Given the evolutionary nature of the contingency plan and its importance, we propose that your contingency plan be “person-centered” or “you-centered.” What does this mean? It means that as you plan, you take into consideration who you are, what is important for you, what is important to you, essentially, what is your story and what aspects of your story could help you in fulfilling your role and responsibilities as a caregiver or service provider? In this webinar, we are going to help you formulate a “person-centered” contingency plan. Through a role-play/case study we will:

  • Introduce you to “person-centered” planning.
  • Help you identify what is important to and for you.
  • Identify specific strategies that will help you develop a “person-centered” contingency plan.
