About This Series

Service members and their families experience added stressors and challenges in the face of disasters and hazards. The inaugural Military Family Readiness Academy series, Disaster and Hazard Readiness Foundations, focuses on the unique needs of military families in the context of disaster and hazard readiness.  This series engages participants in a broad conversation of disaster and hazard management and response with an emphasis on the unique readiness needs of military families.

Dr. Angie Lindsey introduces the disaster and hazard landscape from multiple vantage points—terminology, major players, theoretical frameworks, the role of media, impacts, response, and recovery, and planning from both service provider and family perspectives.
