2025 Tax Updates: What Service Providers Need to Know

About This Webinar

Whether stationed domestically or overseas, or serving on active duty or reserve duty, service members, and their families must navigate the unique, and sometimes complex, special tax situations and benefits that come with filing federal tax returns. This webinar will offer an understanding of the tax laws for service providers and financial counselors who provide resources and information to better serve the unique needs of the military community.  

Please join Ms. Susan Mitchell, Executive Director, Armed Forces Tax Council as she provides insights into key military tax-related provisions and 2025 tax updates that are pertinent for service providers and counselors who assist these military families.

Learning Objectives:
After attending the session, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand when a service member’s pay or benefits are taxable and not taxable 
  • Describe the tax benefits available to eligible service members and their families
  • Explain several of the 2025 tax law updates that apply to most taxpayers, including military service members and their families

Presenter

Susan Mitchell

Susan is the Executive Director for the Armed Forces Tax Council and Tax Counsel in the Department of Defense Office of the General Counsel. In this role, she serves as the principal tax advisor to DoD, representing the Department on tax and compensation issues with the Internal Revenue Service, Veterans Affairs, Department of State, Department of Justice, and other entities within the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
