About This Webinar:

Military consumers are still being targeted for COVID and other imposter scams. This webinar will equip participants with the skills to identify these types of scams and warn clients of red flags. Additionally, this webinar will address the process for reporting fraud and consumer complaints through the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The second half of this event covers the post-pandemic economic recovery and offers an in-depth view of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) resources, Your Money, Your Goals Military guide, and Misadventures in Money Management.

Carol Kando-Pineda, Counsel in the Federal Trade Commission’s Division of Consumer and Business Education, leads teams to create and distribute free online articles, social media content, print publications, and videos to help people spot scams and manage their money. She heads up the Military Consumer initiative as well as outreach to consumers through public libraries. Carol began her FTC career as a staff attorney bringing false advertising cases; she then became the agency’s Legislative Counsel, serving for several years as a liaison between the FTC and Congress. She earned her A.B. from Harvard College and her J.D. from Suffolk University School of Law.

In that capacity, she works with the JAG attorneys on consumer law matters.

Mechel Glass assumed her duties as Financial Education Program Analyst for the Office of Servicemember Affairs (OSA) on August 24th, 2014.  In 2019, she was promoted to Program Manager serving as OSA’s technical expert and advisor on consumer financial products and services.  In her role, Ms. Glass brings a wealth of knowledge based upon her years of service in the nonprofit community helping veterans and their family members resolve financial issues.
