This 1.5-hour webinar focuses on the importance of social-emotional development and lifelong outcomes for young children with disabilities. Evidence-based outcomes for young children with disabilities related to developmental milestone achievement, school and academic success, and life skills development are explored. Presenters also share cultural, ethnic, racial, and linguistic influences and variations on milestone achievement and the impact of disability on milestone achievement. Finally, parent coaching strategies to support caregivers’ facilitation of their children’s social-emotional development are provided.

Jenna Weglarz-Ward, Ph.D. is an assistant professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology (2001) as well as an Ed.M. (2003) and Ph.D. (2016) in early childhood special education from the University of Illinois. Her research focus includes pre-service education, collaboration in early childhood, and recommended practice.
Kimberly Hile, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of curriculum and instruction at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies (2001), as well as her Ed.M. (2007) and Ph.D. (2017) in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests focus on personnel preparation and exploring how early intervention service providers are trained to support families of infants and toddlers with special needs.
