About this Podcast:

This episode examines the potential of music to help reduce anxiety and improve performance during the work day. Exploring lessons from research and featuring interviews with Dr. Kevin Gosselin of the HonorHealth Research Institute, and Christina, a service provider supporting families at a U.S. Military installation, strategies for leveraging the power of music to impact mood and performance are offered.

Listeners will learn how to:

  • Discuss benefits of music listening that have been identified through research.
  • Identify key features of music associated in research with lowering heart rate and reducing anxiety symptoms.

Guest Bio:

Dr. Kevin Gosselin was appointed in 2017 as the Director for Academics and Biostatistics at the HonorHealth Research Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona. Prior to his appointment at HonorHealth, Dr. Gosselin was a tenured Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the Texas A&M University College of Nursing from 2013-17. Since 2009, he has held academic appointments at Texas Tech University (2009-2010) in the Department of Educational Psychology, The University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Educational Psychology (2010), and as an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics at The University of Texas at Tyler College of Nursing and Health Science from 2010-2013. As an educator, Dr. Gosselin has taught, mentored and advised numerous students and junior faculty from an eclectic range of disciplines including education, psychology, counseling, health science, kinesiology and nursing in the areas of research methodology, design and statistics.

Dr. Gosselin holds Ph.D. and M.Ed. degrees in Educational Psychology from Texas Tech University, a M.S. in Kinesiology from The University of Texas at Tyler, and a B.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University. He has over fifteen years of experience in industry and academia encompassing roles in student services, academic affairs, consulting and administration. He has obtained federal, state and private funding, authored numerous articles, book chapters and conference abstracts to advance his research in education, health promotion and applied performance psychology. His recent work includes leading a series of investigations aimed at applying anxiety-reducing techniques to improve self-efficacy and performance in nursing education and practice.

Alicia Cassels – OneOp (MFLN) Program Development and Evaluation Specialist, Auburn University

Alicia works in the development, delivery and evaluation of educational programs. She has served as an educator, clinical therapist and program director in university and behavioral healthcare settings. Alicia’s areas of interest include wellness, special populations, and learner engagement.
