About This Webinar

For over 50 years, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) has supported income-eligible women, infants, and children from diverse backgrounds, including military families. WIC improves nutrition security by providing nutritious foods, nutrition education (including breastfeeding promotion and support), and referrals to health and social services to program participants. Attend this webinar to learn about WIC’s rich history as a premiere public health program, including its role in improving maternal and child health outcomes, and hear about improvements in the WIC food packages and other innovations in the program.

Discover the history of WIC including key programmatic milestones, and the impact of WIC on maternal and child health over the past 50 years.
Describe the WIC food packages, how they have evolved, and the most recent changes.

Presenters

Sarah Widor, MPA

Sarah Widor is the Deputy Associate Administrator for the Supplemental Nutrition and Safety Programs (SNAS) at USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service where she provides technical, strategic, and policy direction on the federal administration of WIC, and the Farmers’ Market and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Programs. Prior to joining USDA, Sarah served from 2007-2014 as a Program Examiner overseeing a wide range of nutrition, maternal health, and income support programs at the Office of Management and Budget. She started her federal career in 2003 as a Presidential Management Fellow at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services conducting social science research. Sarah earned a Bachelor of Science from Trinity College in Hartford, CT, and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Syracuse University.

Savina Sparker, MPH, MBA, RDN

Savina Sparker is a Registered Dietitian, originally from Ohio, with experience in clinical dietetics, corporate wellness, and public health nutrition. She has worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the Nutrition Services and Promotion Branch since 2020, where she works on projects regarding the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for WIC. Residing in Kensington, Maryland, you will often find her cheering her daughters on at their sporting events. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, hiking, exploring new places, and spending time with her family.
