The Academy | Military Youth Well-Being

Coming August 2025

The Military Family Readiness Academy is a comprehensive series designed to support service providers working with military families. This year, the 2025 Academy will address the critical issue of adolescent well-being. Academy learners can dive into the issues impacting adolescents in active-duty military families while identifying strategies and resources to better support youth.

The Academy includes a live interactive panel discussion and three interdisciplinary webinars led by military-connected youth experts. Over six weeks, the Academy will deliver professional development programs to equip service providers with the skills to support positive youth development.

Unified Support for Military-Connected Teens’ Well-Being: A Panel Discussion

August 13th

11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ET

This panel will discuss how service providers across the Military Family Readiness System can support the well-being of military-connected youth. Experts will discuss the role of service providers in promoting positive youth development. Discussion will include using multi-pronged systems of support across the Defense Department’s MFRS and strengths-based approaches to bolster youth well-being.

Fostering Belonging for Military-Connected Teens

August 27th

11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ET 

Join us for an insightful webinar on the impact of school transitions related to military moves and how these changes affect military-connected adolescents. We’ll explore the challenges transient students face and discuss strategies professionals can use to support teens in building a sense of belonging and community. Learn how to foster belonging, create supportive school cultures, and help military-connected students thrive despite frequent relocations.

Creating Accessible Youth Development Programs in Military Communities

September 10th

11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ET

This event will focus on fostering positive outcomes through youth development programs. This webinar will explore how camps, 4-H, and military youth services can support the well-being of all young people, including those with disabilities. Speakers from Cooperative Extension and military-connected programs will share real-world examples and resources to help service providers enhance their programming and promote meaningful participation for all youth.

Launching Leaders: Preparing Military-Connected Teens for Adulthood

September 24th

11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ET

This webinar will identify approaches, tools, and resources that increase resilience and self-advocacy for military-connected teens. Presenters will highlight the critical role of positive youth-adult relationships and examine ways to support military-connected teens in their transition to adulthood. Drawing on recent research, the session explores practical strategies and resources like the Cooperative Extension 4-H program.
