About This Webinar

This webinar will identify approaches, tools, and resources that can increase resilience and self-advocacy for military-connected teens. Presenters will highlight the critical role of positive youth-adult relationships and examine ways to support military-connected teens in their transition to adulthood. Drawing on recent research, this session explores practical strategies and resources like the Cooperative Extension 4-H program. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Define key protective factors within the career and financial domains of Military Family Readiness and understand their crucial role in promoting resilience and positive transitions for military-connected teens.
  • Gain specific practical strategies for fostering protective factors to help military-connected teens build essential life skills to support a confident and informed transition to adulthood.
  • Integrate positive youth development initiatives and community-based programs that expand support systems and deliver targeted services to promote military-connected teens’ well-being.

Dr. Jenny Rea

Dr. Jenny Rea

Jenny Rea, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor for the Human Services program within the College of Applied Science and Technology at the University of Arizona. Driven by a passion to understand the challenges faced by today’s military families, Dr. Rea’s work actively connects research with practical outreach. She is dedicated to supporting military families and those who work tirelessly on their behalf, focusing her research on key areas of their lives: resilience and family well-being, opportunities in employment and education, and the vital connection between mental health and familial relationships.

Karen Baker

Karen Baker

Karen Baker, M.Ed., serves as the 4-H Youth Development Agent and Unit Coordinator for the Virginia Cooperative Extension office in Hampton, VA. She holds a Master’s degree in Career and Technical Education from Virginia Tech University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Virginia State University. Karen is dedicated to providing staff development and training opportunities for adults working with youth, aiming to foster positive and enriching learning experiences for young people. Karen assists youth, and those adults working with them, in acquiring the knowledge, life skills, and values that will enable them to become self-directing, contributing, and productive members of society.
