About This Webinar:

The 4th and last in the Military Youth: Protecting and Promoting Resilience and Well-Being webinar series.

Families play a critical role in ensuring the mental well-being of military-connected youth. This webinar focuses on what adults inside and outside adolescents’ families can do to protect and promote their well-being, especially during transitions. Strategies for prevention and intervention for promoting youth well-being are examined. 

Topics include an in-depth look at:

  • The role of the family system in adolescent social and mental well-being, resilience, and positive youth development
  • Military family factors that promote and challenge youth well-being during military transitions (PCS, deployment, and reintegration)
  • Prevention and intervention examples from the presenters’ work that strengthen military families and adolescent well-being
  • How service providers can apply the webinar content with  military-connected families to promote adolescent well-being

Presenters

Shelley MadDermid Wadsworth Headshot

Shelley MacDermid Wadsworth is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Purdue University, where she directs the Center for Families, as well as the Military Family Research Institute, which she co-founded. Dr. MacDermid Wadsworth’s primary research interest is the relationship between work conditions and family life, with a special focus on military families.

 

 

 

Dr. Patricia LesterDr. Patricia Lester is the Nathanson Family Professor of Psychiatry, Director of the Division of Population Behavioral Health, and the Nathanson Family Resilience Center at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Over the last 11 years, Dr. Lester has led the successful large-scale implementation of FOCUS as a public health continuum of preventive services to support military families facing transitions for the Department of Defense.

This webinar is approved for the following continuing education (CE) credits:

  • Board Certified Patient Advocates (BCPA): This program is approved by The Patient Advocate Certification Board to provide continuing education credit to Board Certified Patient Advocates (BCPA). The course is awaiting approval for 1.5 CE contact hours, of which 0.0 are in the area of Ethics.
  • Case Manager (CCMC):  This program is approved for 1.5 hours by the Commission for Case Manager Certification for board-certified case managers.
  • Certified Family Life Educators (CFLE):  This program is approved by the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) for 1.5 CE credits for CFLEs.
  • Certified in Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS): This course is approved for 1.5 CE credits from the American Association for Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) for CFCS.
  • Certified Nutrition & Wellness Educator (CNWE): This course is approved for 1.5 CE credits from the American Association for Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) for CNWE.
  • Social Work, LPC, LMFT (UT):  Programming is approved for 1.5 CE credits for Social Work, Licensed Professional Counselors, and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists from the University of Texas at Austin, Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Check with your state licensing agency for reciprocity and/or credit approval if licensed for other professions or in one of the following states: CO, FL, HI, IA, KS, KY, MI, NY, ND, OH, OK. 
  • Certificates of Attendance:  Available for providers interested in documenting their training activities.
