Challenging behavior elicits a response from caregivers and educators. However, steps can be taken to avoid responding in a way that will amplify the situation and result in exacerbating the behavior beyond control. Intentional planning should be taken when responding to challenging behavior to avoid implicit bias that will negatively impact the response of the caregiver or educator. When reflecting on the situation prior to response a better decision can be made. In this webinar we discuss how to respond to children’s behavior more effectively through reflection and the use of a neutralizing routine.
Learning Objectives:
In this webinar we will:
1. Determine the impact of challenging behavior on the adults’ emotional state and response.
2. Identify reflective practices to help respond to challenging behavior in a non-threatening way.
3. Identify the steps in a neutralizing routine to respond to behavior more effectively.
